Rural Communities and Empowerment Center, and the Naana B clothing line

August 24, 2010

I heard about RCEC through an amazing Ghanaian designer named Naana B who partners with her her mother’s organization, RCEC, whose mission is to “enhance the welfare of rural communities by increasing their levels of literacy and their participation in the development, governance and democratic processes.” Naana B works with a team of women of all ages and of all stages of training in the field of dressmaker from apprentice to professional and together they not only create beautiful dresses and bags, they provide these women with education and opportunities to develop and create sustainable careers for themselves. The center offers many other programs for the community of Apirede, and I was able to spend a little bit of time exploring the place and the important programs that they offer. To Learn more about RCEC please visit www.rcempowerment.org and Naana B’s work at www.naanab.com
